Bikers Hog Web As Harley Video Ads Go Live From Sturgis

Some 450,000 strong--is in the Black Hills of South Dakota this week attending the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Thousands of other bikers and fans who couldn't make the rally in person are flocking online for unprecedented live video coverage--via Harley-Davidson banner ads and a downloadable Google Gadget.
By Tuesday, 3,000 of the Harley-Davidson Google Gadgets had been downloaded, said Chris Wexler, the agency's interactive associate media director.

The 3x250 banners--placed on MSN, Yahoo, AOL, Univision, Military.com, motorcyclecruiser.com and numerous other sites--were averaging a 2.4% click rate, about 200% above average, Wexler said. And 18% of those who clicked watched for the entire two minutes. Last year, when Carmichael Lynch ran some non-live Sturgis video in the Harley-Davidson banners, the click rate was only 0.5%, Wexler added.

Greenville, Champaign, Hagerstown

Jared Mees:After Greenville I went to Champaign, IL for a Steve Nace fair race that he puts on every year. I took down a bike that I did some work to and wanted to try it out before we went to the nationals in Castle Rock, WA. Then pretty much when I got home from there we headed straight to Hagerstown, MD.
Steve put up a purse for us donated my Andrea’s Harley Davidson. So thanks to them for that. The track stayed a cushion pretty much all night long. For it being a Fair race it wasn’t a bad race track. I think it could use a little more lighting but other than that it wasn’t bad.

Sturgis 2007 Mid-Week Update

Sturgis motorcycle rally officials said Tuesday that attendance at this year's rally is down so far from previous years. Vendors' sales numbers over the weekend confirm this assumption, but the official start of the rally wasn't until Monday, so it's a bit early to gauge overall attendance.

These attendance figures and police reports do little to diminish the level of fun at this year's event.
More fun was had yesterday by Harley-Davidson's Jessica Craker. She interviews Miss Sturgis 2007, Nichole Golinvaux, and later would challenge her to a dancing competition.

Rumbling revenue

Motorcycle clubs is bring big business to Twin Falls area.
"We have a great location because a lot of people from Washington, Oregon and California take this route on their way to the rally," said T.J. Woodall, general manager of Snake Harley-Davidson. "And we do end up selling a lot of bikes to people who are passing through."

Giving Up the Hog

Motorcycles weren’t an attraction of the early 1960s counterculture.
And Harley riders are now as likely to stop for a latte as for a beer.
The numbers have provoked certain activists to scream for more helmet laws.
With a heavy heart, I’ve just put my Harley-Davidson Dyna Glide up for sale in the Lansing State Journal. The Dyna is my second Harley; the first was a badass Sportster 1200 Custom that loosened the teeth after an hour in the saddle. I can’t ride any more...
