Harley-Davidson

Harley-Davidson motorcycles (popularly known as "Harleys") are distinctive in design and sound, attracting a loyal following (in marketing terms, the owners form a brand community).

The Motor Company supplies many domestic police forces with their motorcycle fleets. Harleys are especially noted for the tradition of heavy customization that gave rise to the chopper-style of motorcycle. It also licenses its logo, which is a profitable side business ($ 41 million of revenue in 2004, or almost 5 % of net income).

Harley-Davidson:"Below MSRP"

My sons and I sauntered over to the massive Harley Davidson (HOG) dealership for a stroll and to look at all the bikes. One thing immediately struck me. Evey single bike in the store, almost 100 had the same tag on it "Priced Below MSRP".
I casually asked a salesperson, "What is going on, why is everything on sale"? He replied "can't move 'em and the new models are coming out".
When I asked what would happen if he can't move the old models when the new ones come out, he said that they will just cut back the new model orders. Even worse for Harley.

2008 Harley-Davidsons - First Ride

So why was I so excited about this particular bike when Harley-Davidson has 37 other 2008 models to choose from? Because the Rocker isn't your typical Harley. Stretched-out, slammed, with a fat back tire, wide rear fender and a look that pays homage to the hard tails of old, Harley-Davidson has moved away from its bread-and-butter style and rolls the dice with a motorcycle unlike any other in its vast stable.
The 2008 Harley-Davidson Rocker has a fat backside like no other bike rolling off the York assembly line. H-D's intention with the Rockers was to create a bike with a slammed, hard tail custom look without the spine-jarring ride. Their first goal has been achieved...

Motorcycle Mamas Go ahead, we dare you to ask them that classic, sexist question

Sally Haber of Berlin has ridden motorcycles since she was 6 and has taught motorcycle-riding courses for nearly a decade. She's a skilled motorcyclist and the owner of a 2002 Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 Custom, yet even she sometimes hears the sexist question that has been asked of female riders probably for as long as motorcycles have been on the road.
In 1990, women represented only 4 percent of new Harley buyers. That figure rose to 9 percent by 1998, 10.3 percent by 2003 and hit nearly 12 percent last year when women purchased 32,000 new Harleys. This year, the company projects that women will spend $300 million on its bikes.
