On the road with a star


Mary White of Sweet Home will ride with country music star Dierks Bentley.

White and her chauffeur, Steve Gaskey, also of Sweet Home,were successful bidders in a month-long Internet auction sponsored by KKNU, a country music radio station in Eugene. Station programming director Jim Davis, also a motorcycle rider, knew that Bentley trailers two Harley-Davidson motorcycles when he’s on tour.

The check was presented Friday evening before Bentley’s show at the Oregon Jamboree.

Nagora's winning 2003 V-Rod Harley Davidson is only four years old, but she's no stranger when it comes to biking.

Nagora has spent the last three weeks touring around Ontario, stopping in Timmins and then London for the Canadian National Rally, finally finishing in the Sault.

She also wants to treat her kids to some Harley stuff.

'Bits and pieces' make Betty Boop


Howard Tyrrell spent a year and a half building his custom Betty Boop Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which features an airbrushed B.B. on the tank and fenders.

Many women on Main Street are attracted by her.As if to prove his point, a young woman walking by shouted, “Nice bike!” Someone even wants to rent it.

Tyrrell describes it as a “37 to 92” Harley-Davidson, meaning the parts range from 1937 (the rear fender) to 1992 (assorted parts).

The motor is a 900 Ironhead Sportster out of a 1969 Harley-Davidson. The frame is from a 1956 FL Hydra Glide Harley-Davidson.The shift lever is from a 1988 Cadillac.

'Many eyes' watch for Harley counterfeits


As any motorcycle enthusiast knows, Harley-Davidson merchandise has become enormously popular over the past 20 years.

More people are trying to cash in on the Harley-Davidson name by selling knock-offs of Harley clothing, jewelry and other items.

So here is a word of advice when shopping at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally: If it seems too good to be true, it is.

Motorcycle rallies like Sturgis are prime territory for counterfeit goods, which is why Harley-Davidson sends trademark enforcement people to all major bike rallies -- including Daytona and Laconia -- as well as some smaller rallies, McPherson said.

Wrecking Crew Riders Must Wait to Race; West Liberty Rained Out


The AMA Flat Track Twins event scheduled for Saturday has been rained out and canceled.The next one is the Aug. 25 race at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich.

Harley-Davidson will provide support through professional flat track contingency and the Rider Support Verification Program (RSVP).
