Harley Davidson: Wait 'Til Next Year
We would expect Harley Davidson (HOG) shares to trade sideways over the next six to nine months, as investors re-assess the long-term growth potential of Harley Davidson. After reaching highs in November 2006, the shares are down significantly to the current $47-level. In turn, the valuation is very compelling at 12x forward EPS (forward EPS are estimated to be around $3.90) and a discount to the S&P 500 and other strong branded companies, especially considering the company’s dominant brand and market share, dividend, strong balance sheet with no operating debt, and ongoing share repurchases.

Buying Harley Stock: Born To Be Wild?
I've initiated a position in Harley-Davidson. This is the first time I've owned this company, though I've watched it for years. As usual, there are near-term issues weighing on the stock, but I am happy to wait for their resolution.
I will have additional analysis in future posts, but this purchase is again about buying an amazing company on the cheap. As Morningstar notes in their analysis, how many companies do you know where its consumers are so loyal that they tattoo the company's logo on themselves (Nike is the only other I can think of)?

Garage parties, smaller cycles aimed at luring women riders
At a recent convention of Harley-Davidson dealers here, Delia Passi, a marketing consultant, was sharing the finer points of selling to women with her audience of about 150, many of whom wore boots, jeans, and tattoos. One wore a T-shirt that read, "Born to Party, Forced to Work."
Neatly groomed hair is a good start, she said. Always maintain eye contact. Keep those handshakes firm, but not too firm. Clean the bathrooms. Set up a play area for children. And don't forget the little things that can help draw in passers-by. "Put a plant out there to say you are female-friendly," she said.

This year has seen the emergence of a new style in the custom bike scene with both Fred Krugger and Roger Goldammer building café racer inspired, Harley engined bikes, however, there is now a more affordable option for those who want the café racer look with Harley power. Hogbitz, in Chigwell Essex, England are now building Sportster based café racers.
The man behind the builds, Brian Udall, takes low mileage Sportsters and rebuilds them to resemble classic Tritons. The stock frame and forks are retained, to keep the cost down, the main changes are to the bodywork. The tank is swapped for a distinctive, hand beaten alloy unit and a new rear fender is fitted.

Harley's overseas sales were up 8.8%, partly fueled by a weak U.S. dollar.

Harley net falls on sluggish sales
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Harley-Davidson Inc (HOG.N), the U.S. motorcycle maker, said on Friday its quarterly earnings fell more than 15 percent, blaming "sluggish" sales in the United States, its biggest market.
Harley said it expects the retail motorcycle environment will "continue to be challenging" in the United States, where falling house prices have made consumers reluctant to buy big-ticket toys like motorcycles, boats, motorhomes and trailers.
The Milwaukee-based company said its third-quarter net profit fell 15.3 percent to $265.0 million, or $1.07 a share, from $312.7 million, or $1.20 a share, last year.

Bridges Covenant Church will hold its first preview service in its own building on November 4 thanks to the generosity of Asbury Covenant Church, the congregation that once occupied the facility.
Bridges pastor Mark Andrews initially arrived at Asbury to pastor the congregation’s remaining members while also starting the new church plant. The Asbury congregation eventually decided that the best opportunity to expand ministry in that community was to cease its own ministry and instead support the new Bridges Covenant initiative – and the congregation donated its building to Bridges Covenant.
“It was one of the most unselfish things I’ve ever seen,” says Andrews.
The building is undergoing extensive renovation. Drop ceilings are being removed, all new carpeting and tiles are being laid, and some of the space is being converted to a family ministry center. The church donated its 30 pews to a nearby small Baptist congregation, which was in need of the traditional seating, but did not have the money to purchase any (lower photo).
