Gracemore preschoolers ready for success

Maddy Roberts, a 4-year-old preschooler at Gracemore Elementary School, knew exactly what was about the happen with the red ribbon hung across the doorway at room A10.
“You're going to snip it open,” she said.
The Northland's second Success by 6 center opened Sept. 18 at the school, and Roberts was ready to play with and learn from the roomful of educational toys and material.
Success by 6 is a United Way program designed to provide families with the materials they need to prepare children for kindergarten. Aimed specifically at low-income households, participants can borrow brand new toys and books that all have an educational facet.
It's as much about teaching parents how to be good educators in the home as it is about helping children, said Terry Harrison, a Harley-Davidson employee and vice chairman of United Way Northland's operating board.read more
