Fatal motorbike crashes

TWO motorcyclists on a birthday road trip through far north Queensland died yesterday in a collision with a horse float that involved up to six other motorcycles.

About an hour later a third motorcyclist died when he lost control of his motorcycle in a Cairns suburb.

The crashes took the Queensland road toll to 272, which was 44 more than at the same time last year.

In the first accident a man and woman in their 30s riding on the same motorcycle were in a convoy of up to seven motorcycles returning from a party at the Lions Den Hotel, near Cooktown.
